Cleveland Browns General Manager Kokinis Is Out After 1-7 Start

By Aaron Kuriloff

Nov. 3 (Bloomberg) -- George Kokinis is finished as general manager of the Cleveland Browns after less than a year on the job, the National Football League team said.

The Browns said in a statement posted on the team Web site that the first-year executive “is no longer actively involved with the organization.”

The Browns have a 1-7 record since hiring Kokinis in January, pairing him with coach Eric Mangini , a longtime friend. Kokinis previously worked with for the Baltimore Ravens for 13 years. Both started their careers in Cleveland in the early 1990s when Bill Belichick was coaching the team.

The departure of Kokinis, 42, comes about a day after team owner Randy Lerner told reporters he was “sick” about the state of the team and that he would seek a new “strong, credible, serious leader,” without firing Mangini.

Former quarterback Bernie Kosar rejoined the Browns as a consultant last month.
